In a power cut, use FM. A wind-up or battery FM radio works without mains power or a phone signal, and most need no set-up. DAB radios usually tune themselves; you only need the frequency for FM. BBC Radio 5 Live is being switched off on AM across the UK, transmitter by transmitter, by the end of 2027. Both national stations are also on DAB.
